Why chocolate prices are up and could double by next Easter

Shoppers will pay about 9 per cent more for chocolate eggs this Easter long weekend compared with last, but prices could be more than double that next year after cocoa futures soared to more than $US10,000 a metric tonne.
While local chocolate maker Haigh’s does not expect prices to remain at record levels, the South Australian firm’s chief operating officer, Peter Millard, says the cost of cocoa will likely settle at a much higher level.
