Bullock’s crucial role will be renovating a national institution
The new Reserve Bank of Australia governor’s job is not to be the smartest economist in the room. It’s to recruit those who are.
Steven HamiltonColumnistTreasurer Jim Chalmers should be commended for the soundness of his decision to promote current Reserve Bank of Australia deputy governor Michele Bullock to succeed governor Philip Lowe when his term expires in September. It may have been the safe choice, but it was also the correct one.
Among the three leading candidates for the job – Treasury Secretary Steven Kennedy and Finance Secretary Jenny Wilkinson the others – Bullock was the right pick.
