Gus Richard, a hitherto unknown (at least to this column) tech analyst from US firm Northland Capital Markets, took the unusual step on Monday night of downgrading chipmaker AMD to a “heck if we know” rating, arguing the 120 per cent jump in its shares suggested “irrational exuberance” had set in among investors over the prospects of artificial intelligence.
