Referendum laws to be overhauled ahead of Voice vote

Moves to update the laws governing the conduct of referendums in Australia are being finalised by the Albanese government as part of preparations for a vote on the Indigenous Voice to parliament, which could be held as early as next year.
The federal cabinet will decide in coming days whether taxpayers will fund formal campaigns for and against the Voice proposal, and what official information will be presented to voters ahead of polling day.
