Trade Minister Simon Birmingham is seeking urgent talks with his Chinese counterpart over snap restrictions imposed by Beijing on Australian beef yesterday, as farmers feared proposed duties on barley could be extended to wine or seafood.
Senator Birmingham refused to acknowledge that Australia's treatment of Chinese steel makers, who face import duties as high as 144 per cent, may have triggered retaliation from Beijing.
