Christiane Wasfy has a problem, a new one to add to the lack of guests at the just-opened six-star resort she manages, Pemako Punakha. His Royal Highness, the King of Bhutan, has invited 170 of the world’s richest people to the tiny Himalayan country. They’re due to arrive in three weeks’ time and they’ll stay at the other resort Wasfy manages, an older one near Bhutan’s capital.
The resort’s owner wants everything to be perfect, which means lots of painting and a few last-minute repairs. Which is messing with the zen-like welcoming ceremony performed by monks whenever new guests check in, one of whom has complained.
