Torrential, flooding, incessant rain… that was 2011. But the whites from that year are among the most cellar-worthy this writer has tried.

Sometimes, a vintage comes along that starts out as love at first sight and develops into happily ever after.

The rain falls at all the right times during the growing season, just when the vines need it most. There’s plenty of sunshine to ripen the grapes – but not too much to over-ripen or burn them. Autumn is benign, mellow and dry, the harvest is trouble-free.
