Let’s start by saying that scissor doors – which open vertically – are silly. Same with butterfly, dihedral, gullwing, suicide, canopy and all other doors that aren’t hinged at the front to swing outwards rather than upwards.

The best way to design a car door was arrived at very early in the history of the automobile and all those Lambos, McLarens, Paganis and now MGs with their fancy means of entry and exit are, generally speaking, adding weight, cost, complexity and inconvenience.
