The effects of a 48-hour strike at Western Australia’s largest container port will be felt for weeks, shipping experts warn, with everything from cars, building materials and whitegoods expected to be held up.

A small group of pilot boat operators and vessel traffic service officers critical to the operation of Fremantle Port will stop work for two days from Sunday morning, which will cripple shipping movements in and out of Perth and cause major knock-on effects.
