Shoppers turn to DIY car maintenance amid rates squeeze

The boss of Super Retail, which owns four big retail brands including Supercheap Auto says there’s a growing shift to do-it-yourself car maintenance among owners in tougher times as he predicts a softening in the broader retail sector later in the June half.

Super Retail operates 716 stores in Australia and New Zealand across Supercheap Auto, sporting goods retailer Rebel, camping and fishing chain BCF and outdoor clothing chain Macpac and generated a 30 per cent rise in net profit after tax to $144 million in the December half.
