Super Retail taken to court over ‘flawed’ $52m backpay review

The Fair Work Ombudsman has taken legal action against Super Retail Group – the owner of Rebel Sports, Supercheap Auto, BCF and Macpac – over a 2018 backpay review relating to underpayments of more than $52 million.

The proceedings were filed in the Federal Court and the Ombudsman’s legal action focuses on a sample of 146 of the allegedly underpaid employees across the group. It is alleged that the employees were underpaid a total of approximately $1.14 million for their work between January 2017 and March 2019, the regulator said.
