Metcash boss says shoppers are trading down amid budget squeeze

Metcash chief executive Doug Jones says shoppers at its IGA and Foodland stores are trading down from fresh ingredients to cheaper frozen goods, and the wholesaler is still witnessing suppliers push price increases through despite some input costs easing.

Metcash supplies more than 5400 food retailers, Mitre 10 hardware, and liquor stores such as Cellarbrations, IGA Liquor and the Bottle-O.
