Coles Group boss Steven Cain warned that prices at the checkout would continue to rise amid a “high and steady stream of requests” from suppliers to lift them further, as the company said September-quarter food inflation hit 7.1 per cent.

Supply problems from farms in flood-affected areas were adding to the price pressures.
