Almost half of surveyed accountants and bookkeepers believe their industry has an image problem, and four in five say the sector is seen as boring.

Many believe the perception problem is partly to blame for ongoing staff shortages at accounting firms across the country, although the new survey and other research highlights that low pay compared with other professionals is also deterring potential recruits.
