Labor divided on media diversity royal commission

A divided Labor Party will not back former prime minister Kevin Rudd’s calls for a royal commission into media ownership in Australia, despite a Senate inquiry recommending the move.
The Labor and Greens majority Senate committee on Thursday recommended a judicial inquiry with the powers of a royal commission be established after finding Australia’s media laws are “weak, fragmented and inconsistent”.
