Saint-Gobain buys into CSR’s dark past along with its bright future

French giant Saint-Gobain, which started as a mirror maker in the mid-1650s during the reign of Louis XIV, sees a bright future in Australia’s housing construction market until at least 2030.

But with its $4.3 billion takeover of building products group CSR Ltd it must also deal with the dark past of one aspect of a historic Australian company at the centre of the major drivers of the local economy for 169 years.
