Gupta’s ‘ringfenced’ InfraBuild bought $430m of Whyalla steel

Sanjeev Gupta’s InfraBuild business in Australia bought $426 million of steel from the stricken Whyalla steelworks last financial year, exposing its reliance on the collapsed South Australian business.

Gupta’s GFG Alliance has been seeking to underline that InfraBuild, which runs two electric-arc furnaces in Sydney and Melbourne, 10 manufacturing mills on the eastern seaboard, and a network of steel distribution sites and recycling operations, is ringfenced from the Whyalla steelworks.
