Thirty-four years old, a couple and a $486,000 mortgage – this is what the average first home buyer looks like, according to Australia’s largest lenders.

First home buyers are more often than not a couple, and supported by some variety of government subsidy. They are largely buying in big cities, and make up about one in every 10 loans at a major bank.
