Westpac boss to fly to Tiwi Islands to discuss Santos project
Westpac CEO Peter King has agreed to meet traditional owners from the Tiwi Islands on country, and hear their concerns about Santos’ $5.8 billion Barossa gas project in the Timor Sea, which Westpac is part-funding.
His decision to travel to the community, which is 20 minutes north of Darwin by plane, comes after three Tiwi Islander Westpac shareholders harangued outgoing chairman John McFarlane about a lack of consultation at Thursday’s annual meeting in Brisbane.
