Miners set for green investment boost from new classification system

Banks and investors say a new classification system which lays out the types of economic activities that can be described as green will cut greenwashing and increase financing of mining sector decarbonisation projects.

Developed by Treasury and the Australian Sustainable Finance Institute, which counts all the major banks, insurers and superannuation funds as members, the new system has been created to provide a consistent baseline to assess if borrowers are contributing towards net zero emissions ambitions.
