Macquarie executive bonus cuts under scrutiny after ASIC action

Macquarie Group’s board is facing scrutiny about whether it cut management bonuses sufficiently in response to failings in its risk management and compliance systems, after it was sued by the corporate regulator for misreporting millions of short selling trades.

Corporate governance expert Helen Bird said the cuts to senior management bonuses, including that of chief executive Shemara Wikramanayake, were “tokenistic”.
