APRA holds firm against deregulation push

Australia’s bank regulator shows little desire to follow the US lead on reducing financial regulation on the grounds the regulatory pendulum has swung too far – with perverse effects on lending.

The Trump administration is greatly accelerating that deregulation push, making the approach of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority look increasingly out of step with a fast-changing mood internationally.
