Heavy energy users say the Coalition’s nuclear energy policy, envisaging seven reactors built in Australia by 2050, does nothing to address escalating pressures on energy security and affordability over the next several years.

Andrew Richards, chief executive of a lobby group representing large energy users such as BlueScope Steel and paper and packing giant Visy, called for the debate to refocus on actions to keep the lights on and prices affordable over the next decade, and to decarbonise the system.
