The chief executive of data centre owner NextDC has rubbished suggestions it would take 20 years to install a small modular reactor in Australia and urged the consideration of nuclear as a source of round-the-clock, low carbon power.

Craig Scroggie said Australia risked failing to secure the outsized share of the booming global data centre industry that its politically stable environment offered because it could not ensure cheap, clean power supplies in the future.
