Bringing prices down a ‘joint effort’ with suppliers: Coles CEO

Coles chief executive Leah Weckert says the supermarket giant invests in key product lines to keep prices lower for consumers, but farmers and other suppliers must also wear some of the pain of cost reductions.

At a time of heavy political and regulatory scrutiny of the supermarket sector, she said margins made by Coles were on par with top British chains when comparing net profits, and declared the Australian market was hugely competitive.
