A “ridiculous” amount of evidence has been compiled in the alleged wheelie bin love triangle murder conspiracy, a court has heard – and one accused wants out of jail.

Police release CCTV linked to Geoffrey McLean murder

The case against the alleged Geoffrey McLean love triangle wheelie bin murder conspirators spans 1000 pages and 100 witness statements, a court has heard – and the alleged ringleader wants bail.

On Monday, counsel for Sheree May Glastonbury told the Adelaide Magistrates Court their client would seek release from prison as soon as possible.

Her bid for strictly-monitored bail came after the court heard the size of the case against Ms Glastonbury and three other people was “ridiculous”.

Hannah Salvemini, for one member of the alleged group, said there was no way any of the accused people, who have yet to enter their pleas, could do so before March next year.

“There’s concern in relation to the volume of material filed by prosecutors … it’s ridiculous, it’s huge, it’s a huge case file,” she said.

Prosecutor Mark Alessandrini said the case was ready to proceed to trial.

“It is an extensive file, though, that runs over 1000 pages with 100 statements in the preliminary brief,” he said.

Previously, prosecutors have alleged Ms Glastonbury, 49, and Mark Murphy, 51, subjected Mr McLean to a months-long campaign of home invasions and violence.

They allege the duo used petrol, acid and an axe to harm him on multiple occasions before finally murdering him.

Ms Glastonbury and Mr Murphy have yet to plead to charges including murder, attempted murder, assault and serious criminal trespass.

Prosecutors further allege Mr Murphy’s twin brother, Peter James Murphy, 51, and his partner Lynette Sexton, 50, stored Mr McLean’s body after the killing, and that the twins discussed it over the phone. They are both yet to plead to charges of aiding and abetting the murder.

Prosecutors also allege the quartet are “a conspiracy” tied to one another, and to Mr McLean’s death, by extensive evidence.

While in custody, Ms Glastonbury has fought orders severing her access to a home and cars she claims are hers, but which prosecutors allege belonged to Mr McLean.

On Monday, Magistrate Simon Smart said he was prepared to give defence counsel adequate time to speak with their clients and receive instructions.

“If the preliminary brief is massive, the defendants ought to be afforded reasonable time to consider it,” he said.

When he remanded each of them in custody until March, Stacy Carter, for Ms Glastonbury, said her client would likely return to court sooner than that.

“I just raise that a bail application has been lodged, and we forecast proceeding with it as soon as it can be listed by the court,” she said.
