A couple – including the twin brother of a murder accused – have appeared in court charged in connection to the death of Geoffrey McLean, whose torso was found dumped in a wheelie bin.

Peter James Murphy, 50, and his partner Lynette Sexton, 50, both of Brahma Lodge each appeared separately via video link in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon.

They were each charged with assisting an offender on Monday night after being questioned by Major Crime detectives at their Eastview St home – the same home where court documents reveal Peter’s murder-accused twin, Mark John Murphy, lived before his arrest earlier this month.

Mark Murphy, 50, is also charged with attempted murder, assault, serious criminal trespass and intentionally causing serious harm to Mr McLean, of Andrews Farm, in the months prior to his death.

Mr McLean’s long-term partner, Sheree May Glastonbury, 49, is also accused of his murder. She is also charged with other acts of violence against Mr McLean, including allegedly dousing him with petrol and acid.

Police will allege Peter Murphy and Ms Sexton assisted Mark Murphy and Ms Glastonbury between August 18, 2022 and October 24, 2022, but specific details of their alleged involvement were not aired in court.

Police have also not revealed where the alleged murder occurred.

It is understood the wheelie bin which contained Mr McLean’s dismembered remains was taken from the same street where the Murphy brothers and Ms Sexton lived.

The bin was found on a vacant lot in October last year, about 1km from their home.

Only Mr McLean’s torso, which was too decomposed for police to determine an age or sex, was recovered after a worker made the discovery in long grass at an address on Cheviot Rd in Salisbury South.

On Tuesday, Hugh Woods, for Peter Murphy, said his client would not make an application for bail and asked the case be adjourned to the same date as his twin and Ms Glastonbury.

Ms Sexton, who was represented by a duty solicitor, did not apply for bail.

Prosecutors instead asked the duo be listed next January because there was “a large amount of evidence” to be compiled for the case.

“Charge determination is going to take a considerable time,” the prosecutor said.

Magistrate Michael Barnett remanded the duo in custody and said prosecutors could seek extra time for a charge determination hearing at the next scheduled hearing in June.

Police have urged anyone with information regarding attacks on Mr McLean in April and May last year, or his subsequent murder and dismemberment in August, to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
