A culture of success has Adelaide Comets primed for more in the under-18 Federation Cup, according to defender Christian Kourlas.
Comets will take on Football SA NTC in a semi-final clash at the Parks on Tuesday night, in one of four knockout clashes to be live streamed by The Advertiser and The Messenger.
Eight clubs will be in action over two nights during the exclusive broadcast on advertiser.com.au, which will feature both under-18 and reserves last four encounters.
Croydon Kings face Adelaide City in the other junior contest.
In the reserves, Adelaide Croatia Raiders play Cumberland United and Adelaide United meets Adelaide Olympic on Wednesday night.
Kourlas said Comets were confident they could build on the success they enjoyed in 2020.
But he acknowledged getting past NTC, a squad made up of players selected from Football SA’s development programs, would be no easy feat.
“Most of the boys in this team were in the under-16s last year when we won that cup,” Kourlas, 16, said.
“We know how it feels and we know the experience, so we want to get that back again.
“NTC, they’re always up there, so we’ll have to come with intensity and tighten up defensively.”
On the other hand, Adelaide City’s under-18 side has felt the disappointment of falling short in past cup competitions.
Defensive midfielder Christian Veronese said the Black and Whites were determined to make amends, beginning with the semi-final against Croydon.
“We’ve been in a few cup finals before and never won anything – it’s definitely not a great feeling,” Veronese, 18, said.
“I hope this year we get the opportunity to redeem ourselves and become known for winning a cup, because we deserve it after everything that’s happened.
“We all play for each other and play for the Black and White. We’re really determined.”
City will carry strong form into the clash, sitting top in the league standings and undefeated in all competitions so far this season.
In the reserves semi-finals, Cumberland will go in confident against Raiders after the Foxes thumped Adelaide Cobras 4-1 in the quarter-finals.
Adelaide United, which is undefeated in the league, will enter as favourites against Adelaide Olympic.
Live stream coverage from the Parks will begin at 7.30pm on advertiser.com.au on both Tuesday and Wednesday nights, with matches simultaneously streamed form both pitches.
