A pair of 16-year-olds scorched the Glenelg Oval turf to win South Australia’s richest foot races on Tuesday.
South Australian Javon Brijmohan held off a late surge from fellow Croweater and previous winner Harrison Hunt to win the men’s 120m Bay Sheffield sprint in a thrilling final, waiting about five minutes to be declared the winner as judges examined a photo finish.
Victorian speed machine Chloe Kinnersly won the women’s 120m Bay Sheffield after starting the day as a frontmarker from 13 metres.
She won both her heat and semi-final in sizzling times before displaying her strength in the final.
Kinnersly was swamped by favourites, South Australia’s Olivia Hastings and Mikayla Round, with about 20m to go before digging deep to break clear and win in a time of 13.972 seconds.
Brijmohan, a Year 10 student at Westminster School, was the star of the day, starting from 8.75m and winning all three of his races - heat, semi-final and final - and holding off a late, desperate charge from hot favourite Hunt to claim the $10,000 prizemoney by .008 of a second in a time of 12.370.

Hunt, who won the famous gift in 2018, was aiming to become the first runner since Al Green in 1983 and 1984 to win the famous foot race twice from the backmark in the final.
“I’ve never been so nervous in my life,’’ Brijmohan said after waiting for confirmation of his stunning victory.
“I was just hoping for the win and I’m so thankful that it went my way. I can’t put into words
what this means to me.
“I went into the race just hoping to run my hardest and to get this outcome is unbelievable.’’
