Netball SA’s Country Championships kick off on Saturday, June 12, and, for the first time, The Advertiser and The Messenger will live stream 101 games from the three-day tournament.

More than 100 regional teams will take part in the event, which will be broadcast exclusively to digital subscribers across four simultaneous streams (see fixture lists below).

And in our most ambitious live sports coverage to date, all 26 participating associations will feature in at least one streamed match, giving netball fans the chance to watch the pick of the action from the comfort of their homes.

The country championships are SA’s pinnacle event for regional talent, featuring senior, 17 and under, 15 and under, 13 and under, as well as 11 and under divisions.

This year’s titles, to be held at Netball SA Stadium, are even more special, given the 2020 edition was cancelled as the state grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Netball SA general manager of netball Erin Haines said the championships were “one of the most significant” on the sport’s calendar.

“This year’s event will be particularly big, with 101 teams competing across 526 matches – the most we’ve had in more than 15 years,” Haines said.

“We’re so excited to welcome The Advertiser to this year’s event to live stream across all three days of competition.”

Scarlett Prestwood will line up for Southern Hills’ under-13 team. She was keen to test her skills against a wide range of new opponents.

“Meeting new teams will be great, because in our (Hills) comp we don’t necessarily play many of these teams,” Scarlett, 12, said.

“It’s good to have it (the tournament) back, because I was pretty upset about it being cancelled last year.

“I think we’ll go pretty good. Our team is pretty strong and we have good court setups.”

Great Southern player Ashleigh Cross said the event was a rare opportunity for regional netballers to shine.

The goal attack/wing attack said The Advertiser’s live stream would help unearth rising stars and give those unable to attend the games in person a chance to view the action online.

“I’m looking forward to developing my skills and meeting new people,” Ashleigh said.

“I think it (the live stream) is good, because more people can watch it.”

The Advertiser’s live stream of the Netball SA Country Championships runs from June 12-14 with coverage from 9am daily.
