Garfish

OK, it's not Paris. But sitting on the pavement on a balmy summer's night is a pleasant way to enjoy this popular fish-focused restaurant. A seasonally changing menu is concise and clever. Starters include oysters every which way from natural to crisp-fried with soy and mirin. Another Garfish standard, salt-and-pepper calamari, is unfailingly light and delicious, although portions tend to be on the small side. A daily changing blackboard menu also lists at least six fish of the day that can be cooked to your liking, with your choice of garnish. The whole baked flounder is about as good as it gets, although it's hard to fault the beer-battered fish and chips - flaky, moist fish coated in a light, crisp, golden batter. Variations on the theme are also well executed, including seafood pappardelle, Thai fish curry and snapper pie. Desserts are pretty standard, but if you have a weakness for Belgian waffles, you'll be right. Also at Crows Nest and Manly
