El Jannah

Lebanese

Want to know why El Jannah has grown from a tiny chicken shop into half a block, with every table taken inside and out? The answer is in the glowing braziers behind the serving counter, where fourteen steel rods holding five butterflied chickens each turn slowly over glowing coals. You can taste the smoke in the chicken, best slathered with fluffy, white, garlicky toum and wrapped in flatbread with a few luridly coloured pickles. This is good fun, no-frills dining, with canteen-like tables turning over fast. We're told there is sujuk, falafel and kofta as well, but really, it's all about the charcoal chicken.
