With four branches across the city and greater Sydney, Al Aseel has a well-deserved reputation in both Lebanese and hipster dining heartlands. This newest branch has found its home behind a historic facade just off King Street. The food may not be hatted but the light fittings are, with tops and bowlers hanging from the ceiling, the airy split-level interior also sporting a marble-clad bar and banquettes. There's plenty of room for groups big and small. And it's all about the numbers here, to ensure you have enough ordering power to graze your way through mezze of creamy hummus and smoky eggplant dip, crisp, cheese-filled filo, vegetarian kibbe teaming a light buckwheat shell with aromatic spinach and chickpeas, or tender fried cauliflower. Magically fluffy garlic sauce partners with classic skewered lamb, kofte and chicken, while fragrant, pilaf-style mansaf lamb or stuffed zucchini add a welcome home-style touch.
