Hot chocolate has certainly evolved over the years. With winter coming, now’s the time to get a steaming sweet fix in the form of a white hot chocolate. Here’s where you’ll find five of the best.

Hot chocolate has certainly evolved over the years. With winter coming, now’s the time to get a steaming sweet fix in the form of a white hot chocolate. Here’s where you’ll find five of the best.

Mazbah Cafe, Shop 312, Centrepoint, Murray St, Hobart

What a treat at Mazbah. The cup arrives topped with whipped cream and marshmallows. Their hot white chocolates are made from a divine syrup and the best combination has hot macadamia milk poured into it. Standard hot white chocolates are $5. There is a variety of milks available and for those who need the caffeine hit, they offer white chocolate mochas and marble mochas ($5.50).

Staple Coffee, 2 Bidencopes Lane, Hobart

Staple serves up a perfect hot chocolate ($4.50) made from fair trade gluten-free Grounded Pleasures white drinking chocolate with real Ghanaian butter and ethically-sourced Papua New Guinea vanilla to make it a truly scrumptious treat. It’s served alongside freeze-dried raspberries and toasted marshmallows with milk or almond milk for extra creaminess.

Quarter Inch, 224 Campbell St, North Hobart

At Quarter Inch they are “flavour alchemists” with their $6 specialty hot chocolate menu, which offers a classic white hot chocolate. Made with a mix of quality white chocolate powder and real white chocolate melted into the milk, topped with whipped cream, a dusting of chocolate and shavings, it is rich and creamy — but not sickly sweet. The cosy cafe has a heated veranda and a quilt shop full of stitching inspiration.

San Churro, 5 Salamanca Square, Battery Point

San Churro is like a temple to chocolate. They takes pride in calling their hot chocolates “Worthy Of Worship”. The white hot chocolate here is made with real Spanish chocolate and the customers choice of milk. Your nose must breathe in its rich aroma and your tastebuds will want to savour its smooth, creamy chocolatey deliciousness. Price start from $6.50

Oatlands Roadhouse, 47 High St, Oatlands

Housed in a gorgeous 1847 sandstone building, the Oatlands Roadhouse offers super-simple and tasty hot chocolates. The white hot chocolate is made with hot milk and powdered chocolate, topped with marshmallows and sprinkled with special white chocolate. They have a variety of milks to choose from ($4.50 cup or $5.50 mug).
