Shane Leslie Blinco has been remanded in custody after being charged in relation to a shocking home invasion.

Police will allege that just after 10am on Wednesday, the 36-year-old Toowoomba man entered a Bassett Crescent home in Torrington via the backyard and backdoor before grabbing a 26-year-old woman and repeatedly assaulting her, including attempting to strangle her.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said the woman was able to break free, run from the house and get help from people at a nearby worksite.

“This lady was merely going about her day-to-day work … the reason for the attack is unknown,” he said.

Police were called to the address by another member of the household.

Officers allegedly located Mr Blinco in the woman’s vehicle, which had been stolen from the address.

Witnesses described seeing four police vehicles swarm on the address followed by shouts of, “get out of the car, get on the ground”.

After arresting Mr Blinco, police wrapped him in a forensic gown and transported him to the Toowoomba Police Station.

He has been charged with one count of burglary and commit indictable offence (bodily harm), stealing and unlawful use of a vehicle.

Through his solicitor Alysha Jacobsen, Mr Blinco did not enter a plea to charge or apply for bail.

He will be held in custody to appear in the same court on March 17.

The woman has been released from hospital.
