A Gatton mother’s “unsophisticated” drug supply was a result of her need to feed her two kids and buy things for school, a court has been told.

Sarah Jennifer Thorpe faced Gatton Magistrates Court on Monday where she pleaded guilty to supplying dangerous drugs and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Narelle Lowe told the court police executed a search warrant on the 41-year-old in January this year, and a mobile phone was seized.

Sgt Lowe said analysis of the phone found messages involving the sale of cannabis, with Thorpe messaging a friend “babe do you know anyone chasing some weed, just 10 or 20 coz (sic) I need to sell some … to get food and pay for something at school tomorrow”.

Sgt Lowe said Thorpe told police she didn’t usually sell drugs but did it so that she could buy food.

Thorpe’s solicitor James Ryan told the court his client was a full time carer of her partner that suffered a significant injury as well as two children aged 16 and 10.

Mr Ryan described the offence as an “unsophisticated” drug supply to a friend, and that Thorpe was undergoing drug treatment after successfully overcoming a methylamphetamine addiction in recent years.

Magistrate Roger Stark convicted Thorpe and fined her $500.
