Police reveal cause of death on Crows Nest murder

Investigators want to speak with anyone who may recognise a suspicious metal bar found near the home of Krishna Chopra on the day police discovered her body.

Police release CCTV footage in relation to suspicious Toowoomba death

Toowoomba detectives have been canvasing the Crows Nest area with a large metal bar in hand hoping it may lead to fresh information in the ongoing investigation into Krishna Chopra’s murder.

Toowoomba Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said a bar, similar to the one pictured above, was found near Ms Chopra’s Park Road home.

Police located the bar after a ground search on January 31, the same day Ms Chopra’s body was discovered by police.

It is understood Ms Chopra died sometime around January 21 and 22.

“We believed the bar may be in some way connected to the current murder investigation,” he said.

“The bar has been modified.

“We are asking the public for information about what the bar may be used for and if they had seen a similar bar as part of their day to day work to provide that information.”

The original size of the bar has been shortened to 47cm in length, which may suggest it has been modified for a particular purpose.

Sgt McCusker said the autopsy results confirmed Ms Chopra died from severe head trauma but declined to comment on whether the bar was the murder weapon or if it had any of Ms Chopra’s DNA on it.

“We are merely asking for any information or ideas from the public about what a person may have cut this bar to be used for,” he said.

Police remain focused on determining how Ms Chopra sustained the injuries.

Sgt McCusker declined to comment on possible suspects.

“We are very open to who may be responsible for this and it is very important that we keep an open mind,” he said.

Confirmation about the cause of death comes about a week after police released CCTV footage of Ms Chopra’s last known public outing to the North Toowoomba Bunnings and a Highfields supermarket.

“What (the footage) does prove is that a day or two before Krishna has died she has gone about her normal day to day commitments – she was at a store buying goods the day or so before she died,” Sgt McCusker said.

“We have got some very good information from the public about what they saw, things they have heard in the community.”

The investigation has rolled into its fourth week and has been complicated by the loss of forensic evidence in the 10 days between her death and the discovery of her body.

Sgt McCusker thanked the members of the community who volunteered information, DNA and fingerprints.

“People have been to Krishna’s house through repair work, through visiting her and it helps us eliminate those people from being involved in her death,” he said.
