Homicide detectives will establish a community outreach hub in Crows Nest as they widen their appeal for information into the murder of Krishna Chopra.

Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker appealed for anyone who saw Ms Chopra alive in weeks and months before her death to make contact.

He added that the injuries she sustained have led police to treat her death as a homicide.

“We have engaged the services of the Homicide Investigation Unit out of Brisbane,” he said.

“It is currently here, assisting us with our inquires, mainly as to her movements on or about January 20-21.”

Krishna Chopra was found dead in her Crows Nest home in Park Road on January 31 after a friend made repeated visits but could not reach her.

It is understood she died up to ten days prior to the discovery.

Sgt McCusker declined to comment on whether police had identified a suspect.

“We are keeping an open mind,” he said.

Police have appealed for anyone who knew Ms Chopra or who saw her alive to come forward.

This includes anyone who may have seen the 61-year-old woman driving one of her two vehicles – a blue Toyota coupe or a white Toyota Land Cruiser wagon.

“Just putting her photograph out there might not prompt someone’s memory, but putting her photograph with one of those vehicles might,” Sgt McCusker said.

Police have canvassed the area extensively and examined the inside of Ms Chopra home.

While Sgt McCusker would not comment if there was any signs of a struggle or forced entry but did say that no one police have spoken with to date had said they heard a commotion on or around the days when Ms Chopra was last seen alive.

“There is period of time when she was last seen January to 21 and when police last attended the house (on January 31),” he said.

“That is the gap we haven’t got and that is when we ask members of the public to really sit down, talk to their kids, talk to people who came to their house and to really reach out.”

Mr Chopra moved to the area from New South Wales in 2021 and lived alone.

She has been described a quiet woman who liked gardening and was a keen support of Meals on Wheels.

Sgt McCusker asked anyone who used the Meal on Wheels service to also come forward.

He also wants to speak with anyone who played golf at the Crows Nest Golf Club on or around January 20-21.

“It doesn’t matter how small (your information is), we would rather know the information and decide whether it is something that could assist us then not ever know it or find out in six months-time,” he said.

If you have information that would help the investigation phone Policelink on 131 444.

Alternatively you can stop by the community outreach hub in Centenary Park in Crows Nest from 10am to 4pm on Wednesday, February 9.
