A DRUG driver was found asleep at the wheel of his car, his seat belt on and the car’s engine running, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

Police called to Kratzmann St about 7.30am, December 13, arrived to find Beljit Kumar in a confused state.

The 33-year-old appeared shocked to find he had a drug pipe in his pocket and a small amount of cannabis, police prosecutor Julia Wheaton said.

When a roadside breath test proved negative for alcohol, Kumar was taken to the hospital for a drug test, Sergeant Wheaton said.

Kumar later told police he had been smoking drugs up until about midnight the previous night, she said.

Due to driving while under the influence of drugs, Kumar’s driver’s licence was immediately suspended but he was caught driving again on March 2 and checks found his car to be unregistered and uninsured, Sgt Wheaton said.

Kumar pleaded guilty to all eight offences.

Magistrate Howard Osborne fined Kumar $2370, disqualified him from driving for two years but ordered no conviction recorded.
