49 Charges: Alleged Toowoomba car thief, home-invader makes bail application

An alleged Toowoomba crim charged with 49 crimes, including domestic violence and fraud charges, has applied for bail after he was arrested in a public place with a gun.

A young Toowoomba man charged with a raft of property, weapon, drug, and domestic violence charges has applied for bail.

During Kyle James Easton’s bail application in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday, July 16, the court was told he had been remanded in custody since his arrest in early December 2023.

The court was told the 23-year-old was arrested inside a pub with alleged co-offenders, and when police searched the car he had driven to the hotel, a rifle was half hidden under the driver’s seat.

Officers also located a quantity of meth exceeding the schedule three amount of 2g but less than schedule four which is 200g.

A fingerprint was found on the firearm, however analysis of the firearm and the drugs found have yet to be completed by the relevant forensics departments.

The court was told the police case was strong agianst Mr Easton, and if convicted he could face a minimum of 12 months behind bars given his criminal history.

Given the serious nature of the charges, Mr Easton’s bail application was refused and his case was adjourned for a mention before the same court on August 13.

The 49 crimes Mr Easton was charged with included possessing a firearm in public, evading police, dangerous operation of a car, possessing a large quantity of ice, breaking into multiple homes, eight counts of the unlawful use of motor vehicles, and contravening a probation order.
