NETBALL: The Toowoomba Netball Association is gearing up for its premier talent to hit the court.

The Wednesday night competition returns with seven teams looking to make their mark in the top flight.

A total of 25 teams across four divisions will take part, earning praise from TNA president Brad Chapman.

“This is our premier competition for our Toowoomba clubs and schools,” Chapman said.

“Our strongest teams are playing, as well as some of the Panthers players that are involved.

“Schools partake as well and they’ll use it as a lead-in to the Vicki Wilson Cup. Last year Fairholme and Downlands all represented at the finals in Brisbane.”

Originally for schools, the Wednesday night competition has evolved in recent years to form the pinnacle of the Toowoomba calendar.

Chapman said they with other commitments hindering the availability of some on Saturday’s, they wanted to make Wednesday night the premier competition.

“Originally it was school-based, but we noticed a drop off in experience in the Saturday comp,” he said.

“They wanted a competition that was played indoors and midweek, so its been incorporated and gives them the chance to play good netball.

“Some Panthers get the chance to get more court time at club level, and a lot play in the schools competition so they get that extra game time.”

All games are played at the Clive Berghofer Sports Centre at The Glennie School, with grading taking place over the next two weeks, followed by round one on May 5.
