As we enter the run home in what has been a thrilling AFLQ Darling Downs season, we reveal the game-changing players who are set to shape the race for finals and the premiership.

With several teams in finals races separated by only percentage, the moments of individual brilliance will hold the key.

Senior men

Daniel Brown (Goondiwindi)

Brown has spearheaded the Hawks’ attack this season and is the leading goalkicker in the Allied Cup.

After eight games, he has kicked 25 goals and earned one best player nod.

Charlie Farrer (Goondiwindi)

The Hawks have had one of the most powerful offences in the competition and when they are firing on all cylinders, they are very difficult to stop.

Farrer has formed a dynamic partnership with Brown and has made his presence felt consistently this season.

In eight games, he has been named in Goondiwindi’s best on six occasions and slotted 20 goals.

Rohan Drummond (Toowoomba)

After missing the first four games of the season, Drummond has made up for lost time with 21 goals in just six goals.

With the Tigers in a fierce battle with the Hawks for second place on the ladder, Drummond’s return could not be more timely.

Josh Challis (Toowoomba)

Challis has been one of the most reliable players in the Tigers’ set up this season, kicking five goals and earning six best player nods in 10 games.

Jacob Sheath and Jason Bethune (Coolaroo)

Coolaroo’s lethal duo have chipped in with 14 goals each.

Bethune has kicked a goal in all but one game this season, while Sheath has shown he is a weapon when he’s at his best as he kicked seven majors in round 3 against the Tigers.

Fletcher Brown (South Burnett)

Brown is one of the most consistent operators in the competition and could be in with a shot of the best and fairest if puts in a few man of the match performances in the last month of the season.

He has earned best player nods in all of his nine games and has also chipped in with 13 goals.

Jack Mines (South Burnett)

Another key consistent contributor who can make his mark on the scoreboard, Mines has kicked nine majors in 10 games and has been named in the Saints’ best on eight occasions.

James Packer (South Burnett)

Packer is rapid with the ball in his hands and earned a deserved call-up to the South Queensland side.

Ryan Hodgson (South Toowoomba)

The inspiring key tall is strong in the contest and a weapon in the air.

He is the leading goalkicker for the Bombers with 15 goals in 10 games.

Braden Liddington (South Toowoomba)

Liddington has been one of the Bombers’ most consistent performers and was named in his side’s best players on six of his 10 games.

He has also chipped in with a handy four goals as well.

Jaiden Fidge (University)

One of University’s biggest strengths this season has been their versatility in attack, with several players chipping in and making life hard for opposing defences.

Fidge has led from the front as captain with a team-high nine goals while also earning six best player nominations.

Lincoln Bouttell (University)

Bouttell has rarely put a foot wrong over the last few seasons and has been in and around the action all season.

In eight games, he has been named in his side’s best players on six occasions and also kicked six goals.

Senior women

Lara Paget (Toowoomba)

Paget has been one of the premier talents in the Toyota Cup in recent seasons and continues to prove why she is one of the great rising stars of Darling Downs Aussie rules.

In eight games, she has kicked a competition-high 39 goals.

Paget made her presence felt from her opening clash of the season with a 10-goal haul against South Burnett and has not looked back since.

Nelly Bruce (Toowoomba)

Another superstar talent in the Tigers ranks, Bruce has been a sensation in her first season at senior level.

In six games, she has booted 23 goals and earned five best player nods.

Courtney Browne (Toowoomba)

A reliable performer who lifts her teammates with her, Browne has kicked 11 goals and been named in the Tigers’ best in all but one of her eight games this year.

Tiarna Jericho (Toowoomba)

An incredibly gifted athlete who possesses great versatility and featured for Queensland South recently.

Kati Wright (University)

Wright has found her form for the Cougars and is one of the most dangerous forward line threats in the competition.

In nine games, she has slotted through 18 goals and been named in her side’s best players on six occasions.

Annabel Myatt (University)

Few players bring the level of consistency that Myatt brings week-in, week-out.

She has featured in Uni’s best players in all nine of her games, while also chipping in with a solid eight goals.

Christina Ash (Goondiwindi)

Ash has been in electric form this season and has proven herself to be one of the Hawks’ major game-changers.

In eight games, she has kicked eight goals and picked up six best player nominations.

Maya Coote (Goondiwindi)

A young gun who has earned six best player nods in just nine games.

Bridie Spottiswood (Goondiwindi)

A relentless defender who has been a wall at the back for Goondiwindi.

She has been an expert in defence and been named in her side’s best on six occasions.

Teresa Foster (South Burnett)

An ever-reliable performer, Foster has earned eight best player nominations in just nine games.

Foster is an experienced utility player who has excellent game IQ and also brings elite-level experience, having played for the Geelong Cats in the VFLW.

Nicole Gunston (South Burnett)

Like Foster, Gunston has been immense for the Saints and one of the most consistent operators in the competition.

She has kicked two goals and been named in the Saints’ best eight times.

Morgan Prior (South Toowoomba)

Prior has been in superb form this season and is currently fourth in the golden boot race with 16 goals in just seven games.

She has earned five best players nominations and was at her lethal best in round 4, when she kicked six majors against Coolaroo.

Her tall and athletic frame makes her a perennial threat in marking contests.
