RACING: You’d be hard pressed trying to find a more intriguing runner across the country this weekend than Go Flo.

With just one start under her belt, the Michael Nolan-trained filly makes her return to the track at Clifford Park on Saturday night after a lay-off stretching 498 days.

The lengthy break came after scorching the track in fast time at her debut run at Gatton, smashing rivals by 7 ¼ lengths.

Nolan said a metropolitan tilt was planned after the impressive debut, before setbacks hit hard.

“After Gatton she pulled up okay and we had her nominated in Brisbane, but in the week leading up she had heat in her knee,” he said.

“We had to get her operated on and chips were taken out of her off-side knee.

“Obviously with that sort of operation we had to give her a long time out. She came back in, did some work on the water walker and then went out again for a few more months.

“We’ve had her in for about 10 weeks. It’s just been steady as she goes with her, as is with horses that have had any type of lower leg injury.”

The three-year-old returns in the Harvey Norman Commercial Toowoomba Class 1 Handicap (1050m), and Nolan is hoping she can pick up where she left off.

“When they come back from any type of injury it’s a bit of wait and see,” he said.

“She’s very fast and competitive, and we’re just hoping that we can keep her sound. We have some better races in mind for her if we can keep her sound.”

Nolan is also hoping the rise in trip will play into the hands of Frascati Miss as she tackles the feature event of the night, the MNP Security Provincial Stayers Heat (2150m).

“Her last start was sound over the mile, and we’ve been looking for a race for her at this sort of journey,” he said.

“It’s a good line-up of local stayers. It’s a strong race and I’m hopeful she can run well. I think the rise in trip is good for her, and I’d be happy if she could place behind those sorts of horses.”

The eight-race card at Clifford Park begins at 4.50pm with the last jumping at 9.10pm.
