RUGBY LEAGUE: The Western Mustangs are left licking their wounds after a tough day at the office in the QRL statewide competitions.

In a triple header at the Toowoomba Sports Ground against the Sunshine Coast, the Falcons returned to the coast with three victories.

It started with the women, as the Mustangs were overpowered late in the Harvey Norman U19s to the tune of 28-18.

They started on fire, with Elisa Niki posting a double inside 11 minutes, as the Mustangs took a 12-6 lead into the break.

Four tries in nine minutes from the Falcons proved too much for the home side to handle, with Katelyn Anderson’s late try a consolation.

The U18s boys enjoyed a similar fast start in their Mal Meninga Cup contest, with Mitch Berg and Reuben Tatow opening up an early 8-0 lead for the home side.

Five tries on either side of the halftime break put the Falcons in a commanding position, before Xavier Va’a gave the Mustangs a slight hope at 26-14 with nine minutes to play.

The Sunshine Coast would hold on, coming out on top 30-14.

In the Hastings Deering Colts, the U21s men were comfortably accounted for by the visitors, with the Falcons running out 50-0 winners.
