With a mask mandate in place across Queensland this week due to a series of COVID-19 cases, a Toowoomba pharmacist has shown how to wear it properly.
Veteran pharmacy manager Colleen Barham, who runs Toowoomba Day and Night Pharmacy, said the key was to ensure both the nose and mouth were covered by the mask.
“What people have got to know is it’s got to be pinched around the top of the nose,” she said.
“So make sure it’s firmly pinched around there, and pull it down below the chin.”
For the visually impaired, wearing a mask with glasses can lead to some issues due to your breath being redirected up to the lens and fogging them up.
Ms Barham has a solution for that as well.
“What makes it easier so your glasses don’t fog up is by just the crossing of the string around the ears,” she said.
“That seems to stop your glasses from fogging up as much.”
Ms Barham also reminded residents that masks were not actually to protect the wearer, but rather stop them from spreading germs to other people.
Masks are mandatory for all indoor spaces across Queensland while the Greater Brisbane lockdown is in place.
Many pharmacies have been selling hundreds of masks since the new rules were announced on Monday afternoon.
