Alleged drink or drug drivers keep Southern Downs police busy

A young Southern Downs man woke up with more than a headache after his alleged drunken antics saw him charged with a string of offences. More here.

Southern Downs police had a busy weekend responding to a range of alleged crimes in and around the region.

The incidents come after reports of a missing Stanthorpe woman, who has since been located safe and well.

WARWICK

• A 20-year-old Killarney man woke up with more than a headache on Friday morning after his alleged antics of the previous night.

Warwick police allege the 20-year-old was driving intoxicated along Pratten St West around 11pm on Thursday when his Nissan station wagon lost control, hitting a signpost and a length of Queensland Rail fencing.

The vehicle is then alleged to have veered onto the train tracks before swerving back onto Pratten St with the fence dragging behind.

Police later located the man who allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.195.

He was charged with high range drink driving, driving without due care and attention, two breaches of provisional driver restrictions and contravening a requirement of a police officer.

The man will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court in May.

• The Sunday blues kicked in early for a 22-year-old Warwick man who was stopped by police on Dragon St around 11am, allegedly testing positive to a roadside drug test.

He will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court at a later date.

STANTHORPE

• A 29-year-old man was allegedly struck by part of a vehicle on Granite Belt Drive around 6.40pm Saturday.

Police allege the man, who is of Pacific Islander descent, was lying down on the road in the direction of travelling vehicles when the incident occurred.

It is believed contact was with the lower part of the vehicle, not with its wheels, and that a second vehicle may have been involved, with the level of contact unclear.

Assistance was rendered to the man by the two other parties allegedly present a the time of the incident.

The 29-year-old man was later taken to Stanthorpe Hospital with head and abdominal injuries.

It is said to have been raining at the time of the incident, with no street lights reported on that section of the road.

It is unclear whereabouts on Granite Belt Drive the incident occurred.

Police investigations are ongoing into the circumstances of the incident, calling to the public for any dashcam footage or for anyone who may have seen a man of Pacific Islander descent walking along Granite Belt Drive on Saturday, April 6 before or after 6.40pm to come forward.
