A southern Queensland woman appeared in Warwick Magistrates Court in her prison teals after her sticky-fingered habit landed her behind bars.
Jessica Lee Ann Hadley appeared via video link on June 9, pleading guilty to one count of stealing after a previous conviction.
The court was told the 31-year-old is currently serving a term of imprisonment for related offending, with her sentence to expire in October.
Police prosecutor senior constable Phil Donaldson told the court two of Hadley’s associates removed items from shelves and placed them into a trolley before moving to a secluded location in the store and phoning her.
The court was told the items stolen from Bunnings Warwick included a Ryobi eight-piece power tool kit, a toilet roll holder, two tarps and detergent, with a value of $765.
After receiving the call, Hadley entered the store and attempted to leave with the trolley when she was stopped by a team member.
Snr constable Donaldson told the court Hadley produced an old receipt, insisting she had paid for the items.
The court was told Hadley proceeded to leave the store without paying for the items.
Her solicitor Nathan Bouchier of Bouchier Khan Lawyers asked the court she be convicted and not further punished given she’s currently serving a term of imprisonment for previous similar offending.
The court was also told Hadley is eligible for parole, yet has not been released.
Magistrate Janice Crawford also acknowledged Hadley’s inability to pay restitution due to her incarceration, and she was convicted and not further punished.
