A 29-year-old Beerwah woman has been denied bail after being arrested with a large quantity of drugs in her car while on bail for serious drug offences.

Tiarna Jade Collins appeared via video link from prison at Maroochydore Magistrates Court to apply for bail on 10 charges, including possessing dangerous drugs and breach of bail, some of which relate to a Caloundra West drug raid in 2022.

Collins’ lawyer, Bree-Anna Bowtell, told the court that her client had been making progress with her drug addiction and intended to contest some of the fresh charges.

Ms Bowtell said Collins had purchased the car just three weeks before her arrest and claimed she was unaware of the drugs inside.

However, Magistrate Chris Callaghan was sceptical of the defence.

“Do people sell cars with a lot of S1 drugs in it, do they?” he asked, before describing the claim as “fanciful”.

Ms Bowtell said Collins had been driving at night, outside of her curfew, after discovering that her long-term partner had been unfaithful.

After she was stopped by police they allegedly found a “large quantity” of drugs in the vehicle, including 12.3 grams of methamphetamine and 9.4 grams of MDMA.

Magistrate Callaghan ultimately denied bail, citing Collins’ extensive criminal history and current bail status for similar serious offences.

“She’s shown she can’t comply with bail conditions,” Mr Callaghan said.

Following the decision, Collins requested to speak, expressing her frustration.

“I’ve been on bail for a year and a half,” she said.

“I’ve been working so hard, it’s draining.”

Despite her plea, Mr Callaghan reaffirmed his decision, and Collins’ matter is scheduled to be heard on January 13, 2025, at Maroochydore Magistrates Court.
