A Kuluin tradie has written off his ute after crashing it into a stationary car following a boozy night at a local bowling alley.

Luke John Inkson Treffery returned a blood-alcohol reading of .205 after he was found at the crash site along Duporth Ave in Maroochydore on the evening of January 4.

Police prosecutor Mark Burrell said officers were called to the scene after they received reports a Nissan Navara had crashed into a parked car along the busy street about 9.50pm.

Sergeant Burrell said when police arrived they found Treffery with his ute parked on grass facing the oncoming northbound lane. They could see heavy damage to both vehicles.

The court heard the tradie told police he was driving home to Kuluin after leaving the Spinners Bar and Bowl.

Police could smell liquor on Treffery’s breath, who was slow in responding to questions. He told officers he had been drinking since the afternoon.

Treffery was breath tested and later returned the astronomical reading and was suspended from driving on the spot.

Defence lawyer Chelsea Waters conceded the sheet metal tradie, who is also a co-director of a small business, had two previous entries on his history for drug driving, but said they were dated.

She said the business would suffer to an extent due to the Kuluin man’s licence disqualification.

Ms Waters said he was ashamed and remorseful that he was in court this week. He had completed a traffic course.

The court heard the 31-year-old lost “many tens of thousands of dollars” due to his car being written off, and awaited the other car’s insurance company to advise on a price for damages.

Magistrate Chris Callaghan plainly called it an “outrageously high” blood alcohol reading.

Treffery pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and was fined $1000.

The tradie was also disqualified from driving for 10 months with a conviction recorded.
