A driver, allegedly on drugs, has been charged over a horrific crash which left his friend with a shattered face, exploded bowels, broken ribs, and brain injury.
Tyler Wise, 32, of Tewantin, has spent the last six months in excruciating pain after being a passenger in a car which ran off Lake Cooroibah Road and into a tree on the Sunshine Coast last year.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said police were called to the crash on June 25, 2024.
The driver and passenger of the car were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In the wake of the crash, a family member said it was “horribly traumatising” for the family. She said his injuries were life changing and extensive.
Mr Wise suffered a perforated bowel in three areas, with family saying “his intestines exploded and broke into three pieces”.
He is still unable to eat and has had seven surgeries to try put his bowel back together. Sadly he suffered an infection from one of the surgeries.
Mr Wise’s face was also “shattered” in the crash.
“He has a shattered face … it’s just completely shattered I don’t know how else to describe it. He will need facial reconstruction,” the family member said.
The Noosa man also suffered a damaged eye socket, collapsed lung, multiple broken ribs, a broken sternum, a broken back in multiple places, a spinal injury, a fractured pelvis, a fractured tailbone, fractured elbow, fractured foot, and has sustained damage to his vocal chords.
He remained at Sunshine Coast University Hospital for two months.
He is now at home with family while waiting for more surgeries.
“He’s doing okay … still battling every day though from the accident (crash),” the family member said.
“He is still being offered facial reconstruction which he might consider later down the track. And he will also need a stoma reversal (which can be successful or unsuccessful).” He also lives in pain and is on constant painkillers from all his broken bones, especially his back.
“He had sepsis and almost died multiple times,” the family member said.
On November 9, 2024, the driver, Beau Greaves was charged.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the 34-year-old Tewantin man was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm and offence of driving etc. while relevant drug is present in blood or saliva.
He was issued a notice to appear in Noosa Magistrates Court on December 10, 2024.
According to a Noosa Magistrates Court spokeswoman he did not appear and an apprehension warrant was issued.
The QPS spokeswoman confirmed that was the latest update regarding the investigation and charges.
“Tyler unknowingly hopped in the car with Beau that day, just wanting a lift to the shops. Which he now regrets,” the family member said regarding the drug driving charge.
“While Tyler was in a coma fighting for his life, Beau tried to blame the accident on him. His own mate … while he was dying hoping that he wouldn’t wake up … Beau told everyone that Tyler took the wheel from the passenger seat and crashed the car. Which was a complete lie and he later (allegedly) admitted to.
“Beau was definitely the one driving as he had to be cut out of the driver's seat by firefighters.”
The family member said Mr Wise was left with a severe traumatic brain injury, still needing facial reconstruction, a stoma bag, chronic pain from breaking almost every bone in his body, no quality of life and sits at home all day not able to adventure in the bush like he used to, is on constant pain medication, has to attend ongoing hospital appointments, and suffers from anger and mood outbursts from the brain injury and a personality change.
